The sustainable linen brands that will change the way you sleep
The best natural and organic bed linen
There really is nothing better than snuggling down into a freshly made bed, but believe it or not, the type of sheets you choose can actually affect your health and quality of sleep. French linen, organic cotton or hemp are the fibres to look for when investing in sustainable bed linen. In addition to being free of chemicals, sheets made from 100 per cent natural fibres, last longer and will biodegrade at the end of their lifecycle. This is our definitive list of ethical and sustainable bed linen brands you’ve been waiting for.
Carlotta + Gee
Carlotta + Gee create beautiful linen sheet sets, doona covers and beach bags made from 100 per cent raw flax from Normandy, France. What sets this brand apart is its price points; it makes the luxury of French linen some what accessible. Expect to pay from $150 for a fitted sheet, and choose from 13 colours.
Hemp Gallery Australia
Did you know hemp has antiviral and antibacterial properties known to promote better sleep? We love these combination hemp and certified organic cotton sheets. They only come in one colour – natural (read: no chemical dyes) and are at the upper end of the price scale but they’re designed to last for 10 years or more, so if you’re going to calculate cost per use, they are a good investment.
In Bed Store
One of the reasons we love In Bed Store (apart from their sheets) is how transparent they are about their supply chain. From flax grown in western Europe to being woven in factories in Portugal the company shares all its process on it’s website. Plus they visit all their suppliers annually.
Sol Organics
If you are after 100 per cent organic cotton sheets that are also ethically made Sol Organics is one of our favourites. The brand uses the term ‘from seed to sheet’ which means they are transparent about their processes from the farm all the way to making your bed with your new crisp but soft Sol Organics sheet set. They are a US brand but ship to Australia, look out for their sales.
Bhumi
We’ve written about Bhumi for their well-priced organic cotton t-shirts and their desire to make a positive impact on our planet and its people, but did you know they also make organic cotton sheets? Choose from jersey, flannel or sateen sheets made from fair trade organic cotton that’s also been sustainably grown.
