Beauty from the inside out
Ever wondered which (if any) supplement you should be taking? The ingestibles beauty industry can be impossible to decipher with ingredients like collagen, algae, pre and probiotics, dandelion, horsetail herb extract and milk thistle all promising to make us look better, feel better and sleep like a baby. We’ve spent the last year scouring the beauty shelves and these are by far our favourites.
One we return to again and again. It’s the hero product of Carla Oates’ range built on the belief that glowing skin begins in the gut. It’s a daily supplement with 18 certified organic wholefoods including bio-fermented maqui berries, queen garnet plum and pomegranate fruit peel extract, vitamin C to help boost collagen production and zinc to support healthy hair and nails. It tastes great by itself mixed with water, or adds a berry zing to your morning smoothie.
Why we love it: Believe the hype, you’ll have stronger nails, shinier hair and clearer skin!
The brainchild of impossibly inspiring best friends Chrissy Duigan and Teresa Palmer, Lovewell Blossom (they have Lovewell Grow, for kids) is a plant-based supplement and protein in one, packed with micronutrients, vegan collagen, aqua minerals, protein, super greens, probiotics and mushrooms; all wrapped up in a deliciously chocolate flavour.
Why we love it: It gives an immediate energy boost, and just one serve is jammed with all the vitamins and minerals you can imagine.
Not just a supplement company, sustainability is weaved into the very fabric of Bear, which is part of the reason we admire them so much. Their hero daily supplement Nourish is a certified organic, multi-fibre prebiotic that helps support a healthy digestive system, immune system, nervous system, and skin. The crazy part is it’s made from biodynamic green Australian Lady Finger bananas, which happen to be one of the world’s richest sources of resistant starch, making it naturally high in antioxidant vitamin E and minerals including phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and zinc. Who knew the humble banana was actually a superfood?
Why we love it: Its creamy banana flavour is the perfect match for your morning smoothie.
We came across the Superfood Greens + D by chance after trialling their vanilla protein powders (which, btw are excellent). The greens are alkalising and great for detoxification, and we also found we were less bloated, had more mental clarity and energy. While it does have that typical ‘grassy’ flavour it didn’t taste too artificial, like many other greens powders we’ve tried. It also retails for $35 and lasted a decent amount of time; a win-win as far as we’re concerned. It has 10 certified organic ingredients and works well in just a small glass of water. We did occasionally add it to smoothies but found it slightly altered the taste.
Why we love it: It really helped with bloating and you feel an immediate energy boost, perfect for the 3pm slump.
