The G+S-approved results-driven, non-toxic tinted moisturisers
An everyday staple, tinted moisturizers need not come with nasty chemical side effects, with the ever-growing range of results-driven, clean beauty offerings on the market. Whether you’re after an ultra-sheer barely-there tint, or that little bit of extra coverage, we’ve tried and tested the best on the market and bring you our G+S approved list.
Subtly rose-scented, this lightweight, sheer tinted moisturizer offers physical sun protection, and a hint of colour. A lovely blend of plant-based oils, vitamin E and coQ10, Zincredible Tinted uses Zinc Oxide to provide physical sun protection, meaning there are no chemical UV absorbers in the product. GO-TO stress that this provides incidental sun protection, so for full UV protection, you’ll want to apply an SPF50 as well. We love the dewy and brightening effect of the universal tint and the free-radical protection, making it an ideal base for light-makeup days.
Best for; Ultra sheer tint, physical sun protection
A blend of native Australian extracts including Kakadu Plum, Snowflower and Desert Lime gives this medium-coverage tinted moisturiser its lovely botanical scent. A medium coverage with built-in SPF, the lightweight formula is almost mousse like in texture and gives enough coverage for everyday wear, but still feels as light and breathable on the skin as a moisturizer. For our money, this could be the best natural all-rounder out there.
Best for; Medium coverage, physical sun protection
More moisturiser than foundation, this rose-scented formula feels rich and nourishing, with its blend of plant ingredients including avocado and almond oil, rosewax, quince and St John’s Wort. The universal tint blends in beautifully and leaves skin with an even, all-over glow. With just enough pigment to even out imperfections, but not enough to make it look too made up, this is a winner for that elusive makeup-free appearance.
Best for; Sheer tint, hydration, sensitive skin
Not technically a tinted moisturizer, this multi-tasking BB formula from Inika Organic boasts a high concentration (80 per cent) of organic ingredients, and uses a base of organic oils including jojoba, prickly pear, pomegranate and avocado to achieve a creamy consistency and smooth all-over coverage. As a BB, it provides more coverage than a tinted moisturizer and can be layered for full coverage. It goes on smoothly and dries to a radiant matte-finish, like a super lightweight foundation.
Best for; Medium to full coverage, matte-finish
With calming aloe vera, white tea and rosemary for free-radical protection, and SPF20, this lightweight, hydrating formula is ideal for soothing and protecting stressed-out skin. The semi-matte finish makes it ideal for young or oily skin, and the sheer tint leaves skin looking natural but with even tone. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide provide lovely, chemical-free physical sun protection up to SPF20.
Best for; Light coverage, matte finish, physical sun protection
The multi-tasking KOSAS tinted face oil is touted as a hydrating skin elixir and can be applied as a daily serum, a moisturizer or can be layered to create a medium coverage base. Active botanicals and mineral pigments even skin tone and cover imperfections, and left our skin with a lovely clear radiance and dewy finish. A new offering in the clean-beauty space, tinted face oils fit perfectly into the hardworking multi-tasking beauty category, we’re predicting they’ll soon become a staple.
Best for; Hydration, universal coverage, multi-tasking
