Make more considered purchases with these ethical and sustainable gifts for guys
The festive season is almost upon us and this year we’re all about gifts that can actually make a difference. From swimwear to sandals, we’ve compiled the ultimate gifts for brothers, dads, friends or partners in crime, not a crappy synthetic sock or jock in sight. And don’t forget to keep an eye out for recommendations for women, kids and of charity-inspired gifts too (coming soon).
While there are plenty of options when it comes to women’s sustainable swimwear, the options are a little more limited for blokes, which is why we love The Coral Empire. Their signature boardies are made with the ocean at heart, constructed from regenerated nylon (including discarded fishing nets). We love their bright prints, but if they’re not your bag they also have a range of plain colours too.
Vanessa Megan boasts a lovely range of natural skincare and the men’s cologne is no exception. Made with essential oils, it’s alcohol free and great for all skin types. The Driftwood has notes of sandalwood, frankincense, myrrh and patchouli but if you prefer something lighter try the Citrus and Spice.
Outerknown is the brainchild of world champion surfer, Kelly Slater. They create cool apparel that’s sustainably made using fabrics that are better for the environment. We love their S.E.A collection (Social and Environmental Accountability) that’s made from organic cotton and represents a commitment to their people and the planet. Their short sleeve shirts, chinos and shorts are also worth a look.
Could these be the ultimate summer slide? Not only are they made from upcycled tyres, they’re vegan, waterproof and sustainably made. And if that’s not enough, they come in a great range of colours. Not into slides? They also make flip flops, and we love the range of women’s styles too.
Nudie jeans are the bees knees when it comes to ethical and sustainable denim. They have a huge selection of colours and washes, and they really last the distance. Even when they finally wear out, you can take them to be repaired at one of their stores. One of our faves, The Tight Terry is made from organic cotton and you can track the product’s lifecycle on the Nudie website.
